The best of the rest of 2021…
It’s been a while since we did an update on the blog (apologies 21 turned out way busier than we expected) not such a bad thing though i guess considering all the stop starts that everyone has had to deal with since 2020!
After the success of delivering our meal kits locally in 2020 and at the beginning of 2021 we thought we would have a go at sending them nationwide to see how it would turn out, unfortunately after hitting several snags with different couriers that we tried and just the general slow uptake on the kits at that point (most likely due to everyone getting back to “normality”) we decided to concentrate on live events for the spring/summer.
We kicked off a great May with a residency at the fabulous Neighbougood Market in Stockbridge Edinburgh. The market was born out of the Covid crisis whereby mobile food and drink traders are giving the opportunity to trade in an open space and customers could chill in their own designated bubbles maintaining the social distancing measures that were in place at the time, the good news is that despite Covid restrictions being lifted it looks like The Neighbourgood is here to stay with plans to go again this year 😊
During the summer we traded at some other new cool venues featuring a couple of Bellfield Brewery pop ups (the best gluten free beer in the UK in our opinion) you can find these guys in the Easter Road area of Edinburgh..such a great taproom with outdoor seating too!
Bowhouse in Fife was another fantastic venue we have been buzzing to trade at for a couple of years so it was great to finally get the opportunity to trade a couple of times there last year. They have so many amazing local food and drink suppliers from around Fife and beyond who pitch up within the Bowhouse warehouse to offer a great weekend trip, we highly recommend a visit!
We made our returns to Big Feed in Glasgow and The Pitt in Edinburgh, in fact one of our visits to The Pitt was taking part in the British Streetfood Awards Scottish Finals! It was a great sunny weekend and we got to meet even more great fellow foodie traders (Scotland has some talent) many food swaps were had too 😛
September brought us an autumnal festival season, most of the festivals we did would normally have taken place in June and July but because of Covid they were pushed back a few month. We finished off at the Playground and Food Truck Festivals in Rouken Glen in Glasgow, but before that managed to fit in The Riverside dance Festival on the Clyde at the Riverside Museum and amazingly managing two pitches at the massive TRNSMT!
We purchased a few additions for the business too with that hectic festival schedule so now we are able to be in two places at once with our new gazebo set up and double up with the van to cater big big numbers!
We finished off 2021 with a winter residency with the guys at Edinburgh International Festival, trading at their HQ at the top of the Royal Mlie just below Edinburgh Castle. It was a great way to spend the festive season and to bring in 2022!
We’ve even managed to fit in a few private weddings and birthdays too while learning on the job how to parent a 1 year old who wants all the attention (and rightly so) 😊
We have lots planned for 2022 and first off is a special 3 course Valentines meal kit, if the demand is still there then there will definitely be more kits up for grabs this year…
We are also starting up our take away service through Deliveroo in February. It’s took them long enough to come to the Wee County but now they are here we feel we had to get in on the action, who doesn’t love Deliveroo right! With a great ethos at the heart of their business values we felt they were always going to be our food partner choice for takeout.
Delivering within 4 miles of our Alloa base but also available for pick up too if this one takes off we may look to delivering a little further afield.
Stay tuned for more events and plans coming soon 🧡
