Winter Wonderland!

Happy 2020 from the Stag gang! The last part of 2019 was just as exciting as the rest of 2019.

We had so many great events. First time stints at the two amazing street food biggies Big Feed in Glasgow and The Pitt in Edinburgh.

The Pitt was a lovely sunny autumn weekend when we were there and we got to meet some really cool and friendly fellow food traders. Rost, Barnacles and Bones, The Buffalo Truck, The Shawarma Shack and Wanderers Kneaded are amazing examples of how high the standard of street food is at the moment in Scotland, and such a variation of snacks.

Our first visit to Big Feed was Halloween weekend and Ronnie got a wee spooky makeover, decked out with carved pumpkins, ghoulish ghost and even an orange skeleton! We got to meet another bunch of amazing traders too, Firedog (Ronnie had a Citroen friend to hang with), Apecini, Salt n Chilli, Lost Bothy, Mostar Munch and fellow Stirlingshire based Lutis Artisan Foods. We were blown away with the standard of food on offer and the family and dog friendly venue has so many other cool and quirky things there including giant connect four, live music and even arcade machines!

We returned to Big Feed for their 2020 re-launch in February which was another belter and we return to The Pitt next weekend (7th/8th March) for our second visit, can’t wait!

Other cool events we did over winter where St Andrews Universities Halloween Bash at Kinkell Byre in what must have been the foggiest, spookiest night we have ever experienced. ๐Ÿ‘ป

We had an amazing Christmassy festive residency at Edinburgh Botanic Gardens at the end of November and right through December. It was great to be part of such a cool event and a special thanks goes to Culture Creative. It kept us busy on what we thought was going to be a quiet part of the year for us. Ronnie made another Citroen friend in Patsy the Pimms truck, the best neighbours we could have asked for and thee best mulled wine mmmmmm!

We wrapped up 2019 at Stirling Castle Hogmanay fireworks, what a location to spend our first New Year’s Eve in Ronnie!

We kicked off the new year at the Fire and Lights at The Kelpies where Ronnie met another Citroen in Linton and Co. Its really true what they say coffee is best with chocolate and their homemade brownies seriously are as good as everyone says. What is that secret recipe of theirs?! ๐Ÿคค

There was a really wet day at Kings Park in Stirling for The Stirling Great Run but the weather didn’t stop the crowds coming to cheer on the runners.

We though you guys should know a wee bit about where we source the tasty meat we use.

We found a great butcher to work with in J Hutchison & Sons in Tullibody. They have been a god send in supplying us with the best Scottish pork and wild venison around. Nothing is ever too much trouble from these guys in sourcing what we need. They have a great relationship with Millers of Speyside for their pork and with Simpson Game Ltd for their wild venison.

Millers are accredited by and registered with QMS and Red Tractor and all their pork comes directly from selected Scottish pig producers just right up the road from them in Huntly!

Simpson Game Ltd are also based just a couple of hours north of us in Newtonmore and are part of the Scottish Quality Wild Venison Assurance Scheme. They are also SALSA approved, making sure we only ever use the very best Scottish venison available.

On some occasion we also use another great game butcher just along the road in Lothian, Castle Game Scotland Ltd. Neil and Andy have always been on hand to offer advise on how to use different cuts and not only do they supply the tastiest venison but they have the best supply of wild boar out there too. Check them out as they also sell to the public, you lucky people!

The other huge thing that happened over winter was that we finally found a base to call home! Ronnie now has a roof over his head and we now have the space to take on so much more work. It’s amazing what we managed to achieve working from home but it really wasn’t practical for us. This new space means we get our spare room back too ๐Ÿ˜‚

Big things are just around the corner but for now we will leave that for the next blog instalment.

Thanks again to everyone who has supported us so far and has had the chance to try the grub, without you guys we wouldn’t have been able to follow our dream in starting up. You guys are awesome ๐Ÿšš๐Ÿงก๐Ÿ”ฅ๐Ÿ™Œ๐Ÿป
